Kitesurfing safety gear
Many of the worst kitesurfing accidents happen close to land, not out on the water: during launching and landing, or when a gust catches a rider near obstacles. Good safety gear is cheap compared with a kite, and it's the part of your kit you hope never to test.
The essentials: know your bar's quick release by feel, wear an impact vest and a helmet while you're learning or riding near hard objects, and keep a hook knife on your harness.
