How we chose
We looked at the current travel, golf and board bags from Duotone, ION, Mystic and Prolimit (Slingshot, Cabrinha and Airush didn't have a current kite travel bag on their own stores) and kept the ones built for flying: padded, most of them wheeled, in lengths that take a twin-tip.
Specs and prices come from each brand's own page, listed under Sources. Few brands publish padding thickness, so that column is mostly dashes. This is a spec comparison: no bag was thrown on a baggage belt for this guide.

What breaks in transit, and how to pack
It's rarely the board. Modern boards handle knocks well. The usual damage is bar lines tangled into knots that take an hour to unpick, fins damaged when the board shifts, and kite bladders crushed when bags are stacked or dropped. Packing well prevents most of it:
- Boards first, fins removed and wrapped separately. Never pack a board with its fins on.
- Kites folded the manufacturer's way (check the manual or the brand's video), placed in the middle of the bag, away from the edges where impacts land.
- Bars secured with their own Velcro or a strap, so the lines can't work loose and tangle.
- Soft kit round the edges: wetsuit, harness and clothes make good padding. Pack them as padding, not as an afterthought on top.
